2023 Goals

2023 Goals

I am not a big New Year’s resolution person, but this year I have some goals that are long overdue. I am writing down the big ones to hold myself accountable.

First, finally foot surgery for my left foot. I had surgery on my right foot in December of 2016, and the recovery was HARD. I was “toes above nose” for 10 days, no weight bearing/driving for three weeks. When the pain started in my left foot about a year ago, I started wearing Crocs with a toe spacer to ward off the pain. Those bandaids worked until last week when the trifecta made me Google the Duke Ortho phone number to schedule a consult. First, I wore heels to a holiday party. They were smart heels, but I had ankle pain about 2 hours into the party. I ended up going home barefoot. Then we went to Key West, and I did not plan out the day with a morning of snorkeling and walked around the rest of the day in flip flops. The final straw was the next day when we all had to take our shoes off to run home during a big storm. So much pain, and I am actually in an ankle brace right now. I am hopefully a candidate for the minimally invasive surgery. Fingers crossed.

Second, bifocal contacts. I remember saying no thank you when the eye doctor explained there were contacts that could correct my reading ability (hello super small phone font!) and astigmatisma. The idea that your brain trains one eye to read small font and the other eye fuzzy stuff made my head hurt. But I am DONE with reading glasses. You always have to have a pair on your head, in the car, in the kitchen, etc. I want to be able to see any and everything. And I like to wear hats which means the readers need to be tucked into my shirt which is annoying because I usually try to clip them into my favorite necklace.

Wish me luck with my goals, some serious old lady goals. But I hope these resolutions allow this almost 50 year old woman to enjoy life more.
