tag team parenting

tag team parenting

There are some days when I wish my family still looked like this picture. They loved us unconditionally, never questioned our advice, and were just genuinely happy just for the sake of being happy.

Enter the teen years.

As hard as it can be some days, I am super grateful for my partner in this quest to produce two contributing members of society. Lately we have been doing a lot of tag team parenting, and honestly, I am the one who has needed to tag to be out and for him to tag to be in. I had to own Monday morning that I was no longer effective working with the teen boy on an issue, and right on cue, the husband offered to be “good cop” and try a different approach. Thankfully his approach worked.

I am glad that we have a partnership where we can tag team parent and realize when one parent can be more effective. It takes a lot of courage to admit when you are not being effective. How anyone does this solo baffles me.

So fellow parents of teens, how do balance parenting with your partner? Do you tag team or do you have other approaches that work? I would love to hear how other families navigate parenting during the teen years.
